Description This written assignment provides an opportunity for students to finalize the writing
of their major project. To complete this assignment, students are expected to
revise, compile, and build upon their draft submissions.
Expectations Your written submission should contain the following sections:
1. Introduction
2. Regional History
3. Regional Profile
4. Regional Wellbeing Indicator
5. Conclusion
6. Bibliography, References, or Works Cited
The introductory section should contain the following details:
• A description of the region, including reference to the region’s key
communities
• A rationale as to why the region is worthy of study
• A brief description of the region’s history
• A brief description of the region’s profile
• A brief description of the regional wellbeing indicator
• References to the class discussions and readings
Note: You should consider writing the introductory section last.
The regional history section should contain the following details:
• An introductory paragraph identifying five major historical events that
transformed the region
• A description of each historical event, including:
o What happened, and when did it happen?
o Who was involved?
o How did the event impact past conditions?
o How does the event impact current conditions?
• References to the class discussions and readings
The regional profile section should contain the following details:
• An introductory paragraph describing the regional profile
• Tables compiling demographic characteristics
• Tables compiling social characteristics
• Tables compiling economic characteristics
• Tables compiling industrial concentration ratios for each community
within the region (that has data available)
• A written description and analysis of notable characteristics and trends
• References to the class discussions and readings
The regional wellbeing indicator section should contain the following details:
• An introductory paragraph describing your proposed wellbeing indicator.
• A description of each component and subcomponent, along with reasoning
as to why these components and subcomponents were included based
upon your growing knowledge of the historical, social, economic, and
cultural characteristics of the region
• A description of how component and subcomponent will be combined,
including the weights assigned to each component indicator and the
rationale for those weights based upon your growing knowledge of the
historical, social, economic, and cultural characteristics of the region
• References to the class discussions and readings
The concluding section should contain a restatement of the main findings drawn
from each preceding section.
The Bibliography, References, or Works Cited section should list all sources cited
throughout the preceding sections, including data sources.
Format Details The paper should be written in a formal style (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA). At a
minimum, the assignment should be typed with 12 pt. Times New Roman font with
double-spaced lines, 1” margins, and on standard letter-sized pages (8.5” by 11”).
Allow for a single title page and as many pages of content as necessary.
An abstract is not necessary.
The assignment should be submitted by email as a Word file (.doc or .docx).
The feedback from your previous submissions should be considered when
incorporating the content of the draft submissions into your final assignment.
Evaluation This assignment is worth 35% of your final grade. The assignment will be evaluated
on grammar and style (25%), organization (25%), and content (50%).
Grammar and style involve figure style, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling,
and the application of formal style rules, including paper format, citations, and
references.
Organization involves the order of figures and paragraphs and the sentence order
within paragraphs.
Content includes the accurate presentation of data and the communication of
ideas, including word choice, support, and reasoning.
Your written submission will likely need contain 15 to 20 pages of content to
adequately capture the assignment requirements.
