You will develop a personal nursing philosophy paper which should clearly reflect your personal philosophy of nursing. The paper should include the identification and examination of your own perspective (definition) of nursing’s metaparadigm of nursing, person, health and environment.

Read the attached chapter, Framework for Nursing Practice (Masters, 2011) before beginning work on your Philosophy of Nursing paper. It will help you to understand the concepts of ‘person, environment, health and nursing,’ and will give you a basis to develop your own nursing philosophy.

The paper should be double spaced, APA (American Psychological Association) format and 2-4 pages in length.—no more! Points will be deducted for papers longer than 4 pages!

The paper should be included in your Brenau Success Notebook.

II. Definition of Nursing (15 pts)
a. How do you define nursing?
b. Why does it exist? Or why is it important?
c. Why do you want to practice nursing?

III. What are your underlying beliefs about: (20 pts)
a. Nurses
b. Patients
c. Other healthcare providers

IV. Describe the major domains of nursing (20 pts)
a. Person
b. Health
c. Environment/situation

V. Tying it all in (30 pts)
a. How are the domains connected?
b. How will you live out your philosophy in practice?
c. What challenges do you think you will face in implementing your nursing philosophy into practice?
d. How will you overcome these challenges/barriers in order to be a successful nurse and move the profession forward?
e. What are your goals for professional development?
