Research Design and Ethics

Mark, a fictional member of this class, is planning to conduct a qualitative research project concerning the causes of burnout in the project managers of his organization. Mark is a project manager for ARCO’s Oil and Gas Exploration Division. He is interested in the lived experience of the other three project managers at the same level in ARCO Alaska’s operation.

A project manager oversees an exploration project from beginning to end. His specific duties are as follows:
 He works to coordinate the work of technical experts (e.g., geologists geophysicists, petroleum engineers) that inform the progress of an oil prospect.
 He monitors the project’s budget.
 He ensures that needed materials are delivered to the drilling site in a timely manner.
 He also serves as the liaison between the drilling company and ARCO.
