Paper instructions:
Case Study based on the article attached called “James McNerney and 3M – Making a Good Company Better”. Along with 3 question essay-based questions. Which are :
1. 3M has been known as an innovation powerhouse for decades, even before McNerney took over. What were some of the internal factors that led 3M to be great prior to McNerney’s arrival?
2. McNerney engaged in a major overhaul of the organizational culture and many other related aspects that had an impact on innovation within 3M. Why did Mcnerney change these aspects? And to what extent are these changes counter to some of the ideas from class? Be sure to refer to specific readings and class ideas here.
3. An important part of McNerney’s work at 3M was related to people, broadly in terms of organizational culture, cultural change, talent management, managing for creativity, and employee motivation. What are the three most important takeaways from McNerney’s work in regard to people? How do they connect to specific ideas (e.g., course readings, discussion topics) in regards to innovation?
