Description
Here are four suggested essay topics on the epic of Gilgamesh. Be sure to review the essay requirements in the syllabus. You are welcome to develop your own topic but you must get it approved in advance by TR:
Do you find that the epic presents certain characters, gods, values, or phenomena as unquestionably good or evil?
What does the epic suggest is the best way of life? That of Gilgamesh? That of Enkidu? That of Utnapishtim?
What roles do women and goddesses play in the epic? Are some unquestionably good? Are some unquestionably evil?
Is this a (proto-) environmentalist text? How would you describe the relationship between nature and civilization in the epic?
