For this assignment, you are to go sentence by sentence in A.O. Scott’s Spiderman film review and “code” it for the 5 types of information we have been discussing (i.e. 1) Summary, 2) Specific Summary, 3) Background Information, 4) Personal Narrative, 5) Response).
You can color-code it, use different types of underlining techniques–however you can indicate where the 5 types of information appear.
After you code the entire article, take a photo or scan the finished document and upload it here.
HINT: Most sentences of this review contain MULTIPLE categories. If you are going a full sentence and thinking it is one category, and especially if you are going through multiple sentences and thinking they are only one category, you probably need to look closer.
THE WHY: The goal of this assignment is for you to keep reminding yourself of (and practicing) the 5 definitions/categories. It is not an exact science, but when you really “know” how these categories work in/with film reviews, it will be much easier for you to notice and identify when and how these categories are showing up in full-length editorials and academic articles.
