Description
Keep Talking and Nobody Blows Up (KTNBU) game
Much of the session this week will be focused on your team playing an interactive online game called “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes”. This online game is a simulated bomb defusion exercise where one of the students on your team is the explosives defusing expert and the other members of the team are technical experts. The job of the team is to defuse the bomb as quickly as possible.
The challenge with this task is that the on site explosives expert can see the bomb, but has none of the technical detail related to how it can be defused, and all the other teammates have unique and specific information about the technical details of how to defuse, but no way to see the bomb. The game relies on each member of the team to take the perspective of other members of the team and communicate what they know in a way that the other person, with limited knowledge, should be able to understand and incorporate.
“Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes” has won many awards and is a great teambuilding and communication game for virtual teams. It is expected that teammates will play this game a few times over the week of the course and change who is the defuser and who are the technicians at least a few times.
Following the “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes” exercise, you are asked to complete a self analysis of the process and your personal experiences and reflections of the experience. See the Assessments for this unit for a guideline for how to complete the self-reflection.
